For further cost savings and increased safety during emergency situations, the SETEC pitch-drive is based on conventional AC-motor, with autonomous control system for each rotor-blade. In case of a blade emergency operation, a mechanical energy-storage provides the torque which is needed. In the flag-position the emergency torque will be stopped automatically. A common significant risk of nearly all existing wind-turbines is the case if the blade-position brakes blocking the mode of blade operation. To avoid damage to the wind-turbine, each blade includes redundancy to enable emergency operation. Compared with today’s pitch systems the SETEC design gives a lot more security and furthermore, it reduces costs.
